Thinkware iVolt Mini External Battery

  • Increase the duration of the Parking Surveillance mode of your Thinkware Dash Cam with the iVolt Mini External Battery.

  • It allows your Thinkware dash cam to remain in Parking mode for up to 20 hours, or 16 hours with a rear cam added and even longer dependent on the camera and mode used.

  • Compatible with all THINKWARE Dash Cam models.

  • Please note that this requires the Hardwired version of the Dashcam

Hardwire or Plug & Play?

Hardwire

Looking to extend the duration of the dashcams parking mode, then install the iVolt into your vehicle. The Hardwired version wires directly into your vehicles fuse box, allowing the iVolt to charge whilst the vehicles ignition is on, this allows for the iVolt to be fully recharged in 45 minute

The iVolt battery is also fully recharged in approximately 80 minutes while driving.

!Please Note the 12v Accessory socket must be ignition controlled!

Recommended for vehicles that use an intelligent battery system (IBS) like some models of BMW, as they often raise an error code detecting the additional power drain whilst in parking mode.

Do I need to use a Dash Cam Battery Pack?

Thinkware Dash Cams offer a few different methods in which the device is powered.

All Thinkware Dash Cams come standard with a built-in voltmeter and battery protection settings to ensure you will not return to your vehicle with a dead battery. These Voltage Settings can be utilized with the Hardwiring Kit or OBD-II Harness to protect your battery when using Parking Mode.

However, If you wish to record an extended amount of Parking Footage, or if you have a Luxury Vehicle/Small Vehicle Battery the Thinkware iVolt Mini Battery Pack may be the right choice for you.

The Benefits of using a Dash Cam Battery Pack

Extended Parking Mode

When Hardwired the Dash Cam will record in Parking Mode for approximately 8 hours (depending on vehicle’s battery and the voltage cut-off setting) before powering down to save power. With the iVolt Mini, your 1 Channel Dash Cam can run for 20 hours, or if you have a  2 Channel Dash Cam, 16 hours in Parking Mode before needing to recharge the battery pack.

Safe for Luxury Vehicles

If you own a Luxury Vehicle such as a BMW, battery drainage not only means replacing the vehicle’s battery but it can also require the dealership to reset the vehicle’s electronics, which can turn into an extremely expensive fix.

By using a Dash Cam Battery Pack, you will still be able to use our Advanced Parking Mode risk-free.

Avoid Wear and Tear

With a Hardwired Dash Cam, the constant discharge on the battery over a long period of time can cause wear and tear. The iVolt Mini Battery Pack only draws power to charge when you are driving the vehicle, which prevents damage to the vehicle’s battery over time. With the ignition off, the Dash Cam relies solely on the Battery Pack for power, eliminating the need to draw power from the vehicle’s battery completely

Why use a Dash Cam Battery Pack instead of a Portable USB Battery Pack?

Portable USB Battery Packs feature different technology than a dedicated Dash Cam Battery Pack. Portable USB Battery Packs typically use Lithium-Ion batteries to provide power to the device. Our Thinkware iVolt Mini utilizes a LiFePo4 (Lithium iron phosphate) battery.

The LiFePo4 battery is safer for in-vehicle use as it was designed to withhold extreme temperatures. Lithium-Ion Batteries used in these Portable USB Battery Packs have been known to combust under extreme heat.

In addition, Portable USB Batteries typically have a long charging time (overnight) compared to our Thinkware iVolt Mini which fully recharges in 45 mins while driving.

Ask a Question
: A dash cam starts creating video files on an empty memory card. These video files are typically segmented into 1, 3, or 5 minute chunks, since it is easier to view and work with small video files on your computer rather than one long continuous file. When the memory card is full, the dash cam simply starts over at the beginning of the memory card, and in this way, never needs any attention from you until you have captured an incident on video that you would like to save. This is known as "loop recording", and is one of the most important abilities of dash... Read more

Depending on the type of equipment ordered, the equipment is supplied to you with an option to either be fitted by an Audio Images or Vehicle Tracking Tech (VTT) approved installer (at a cost quoted in the Service Confirmation email) or you can personally arrange for installation of the required Equipment into the Vehicle by your own installer. This option excludes all Thatcham categorized equipment which can only be installed by an Audio Images or Vehicle Tracking Tech (VTT) approved installer. You can't explain that! Just kidding. Dash cams record video to a removable memory card inside the camera itself. Any time your car is on and the dash cam is plugged in, it is acting as your backup witness. Dash cams automatically start recording when they are powered on, and stop recording once you turn your car off. Note: Some dash cam models have the ability to keep recording even while the vehicle is parked! This is known as "parking mode".

Once you have purchased a dash, in most cases this is all you need to do to be up and running:

  • Insert a memory card.
  • Attach the suction-cup mount to your windshield.
  • Plug the power cord into the power source (cigarette lighter or other).
  • Done! Since recording is automatic, just drive your vehicle like you normally would, and enjoy the fact that you are now "protected by dashcam"!.

Please note that the above is applicable to plug & play dash cams.

Yes, there are several types of dash cams, and while they come in all shapes and sizes, they may be classified into a few distinct categories (click on any category link below to open a new browser window to that category of dash cam): Single-lens dash cams (for forward-facing recording) Dual-lens dash cams (for front + rear recording) Dual-lens dash cams (for front + inside recording) Professional dash cams (for commercial or governmental fleet vehicles) Single-lens dash cams are the most basic type of dash cam. These record from a single camera lens, like a normal camcorder. Typically people mount these dash cams in their front windshield in order to record what is happening in front of the car. Dual-lens dash cams are a bit more complex. These dash cams can record from more than one camera lens at a time. Typically they utilize one forward-facing lens to record what is happening in front of the vehicle, and one inside-facing lens to record what is happening inside the vehicle. These are particularly useful for fleet or commercial vehicles where typically the driver of the vehicle is not the owner of the vehicle. There are also dual-lens dash cams for front + rear such as the BlackVue DR750S-2CH that record in front of the vehicle like a single-lens model, but also use the input from a smaller remote camera (a camera mounted in the back of the vehicle - on the rear windshield) to record what is happening behind the vehicle as well. Professional dash cams are commercial-grade models designed for business use (fleet vehicles, taxis/Uber/Lyft drivers, delivery trucks, etc) or other commercial, municipal or government purposes. These high-reliability units are also desirable to those individuals seeking the added peace of mind that comes from using a professional-level device in their own... Read more

While many of our dashcams can be easily self-installed, some vehicles, especially those with specific features like split tailgates or complex wiring, may require professional assistance. Our expert installers can handle these challenges, ensuring optimal placement and functionality of your dashcam.
