Thatcham Research carries out research so that it can tests vehicle security systems, trains apprentices, and provides data that insurers use to classify cars into insurance groups.
Category S5 Insurance Approved Tracking
When you park your vehicle up, a real-time location report is produced using GPS satellite networks . The S5 works on unauthorised movement, so if the vehicle is parked up with the ignition off and it is moved/towed, or moved without the tag, or in case there has a battery disconnect, a trigger is immediately actioned to the control centre who will contact you. This product has remote immobilisation in case of theft the control centre has the option to immobilise the engine.

Monitored Alarm Center with 24/7 Level 1 Police response
The Control Centre’s are monitored 24/7 so should there be any thefts, you can contact them round the clock. Equally, if there are any tampering, battery disconnect alerts or indeed any unauthorised movement they will be in contact, even if it’s the early hours.
Unauthorised Movement Sensing
The Control Centre will contact you to ask for confirmation that the vehicle is secure if it is moved without the ignition on. When installing S5 units that use a driver ID tag system, if the vehicle is without a tag, the phone will be actioned via the secure operating centre. A requirement of the S5 Thatcham criteria is that the device must be accompanied by a system that is used to verify the driver of the vehicle is an authorised user. With the ScorpionTrack S5+ devices, driver recognition can be in the form of a physical Driver Detection tag. Driver Detection is a physical tag-based system that requires the driver to carry a tag with them when driving the vehicle. If the card is not present in the vehicle when moving, Scorpion will endeavor to contact the registered keeper to ensure the vehicle's safety.

No Tag, No Start
The Thatcham approved S5 Scorpion S5 plus has the facility if there’s no tag the vehicle will not start, unless authorised with your tag or on your app which is designed to override the system in case the tag is lost this can be switched overridden using the app.
Remote Immobilisation
If the Police are involved in pursuing your vehicle in the event of a theft, they can authorise the Control Centre to activate immobilisation to stop the vehicle when it is safe to do so and stop the thieves going any further
Speed Alerts
As the name suggests, the GPS works to keep track of the vehicle and detects when you are speeding and will alert you.
Location Request
If you have parked your vehicle and the location is required where it has been parked, you can request the location via the app this will guide you back to your vehicle location. However, if you are parked in an underground car park, the last location recorded before entering the underground car park will be recorded.
Crash Detection
On some of the trackers we supply, there is a crash detection feature that will send an alert to your phone if the car is involved in an accident, so, if you’re not with the vehicle you can check on whoever is driving and alert emergency services if needed.
Route History
Route History is unlimited if the tracker is in subscription to check what routes you have taken with the majority of our tracking devices. Helpful if you need to recall where you parked, or which journey you took.
International Roaming Network
Our products use roaming, multi-network SIMS which means that if you take your vehicle abroad it will select the strongest network to connect to.
Battery and Anti-Tamper Monitoring
Every tracking device has a built-in battery backup which kicks in when the tracking devices main power source has been cut off or someone disconnects the battery. An alert will be sent by the Control Centre should the battery be disconnected.

Optional Alarm Input
This is when you connect the scorpion S5 or S7 tracker to an aftermarket alarm. You will receive push notifications if you have a scorpion tracker installed. The main alerts for the aftermarket alarm will be smashed windows, tilt/motion or the shock sensor is triggered or indeed if the doors/boot or bonnet circuits are broken which will in-turn trigger the alarm and you will be notified via push notifications
12 Volts
The trackers we supply mean that you can see where your vehicle is, at all times due to the high level of technology involved. We have devices suitable for all vehicles with the option of 12 volts depending on the technical requirements. We will recommend the appropriate trackers for your vehicle whether it be a motorbike, car, van or truck.
Encrypted Driver Recognition Tags
The S5 vehicle trackers have a tag system. When a tag holder enters or exits the vehicle, the vehicle instantly recognises them as an authorised driver. The tracking system must comply with this method in order to be certified as a Thatcham approved S5 tracker.
Geo Fencing
With the app, if the tracker you have installed supports Geo Fencing, you can set a virtual border around the vehicle, so that if the vehicle breaches this border, you will be alerted immediately.
Very High Frequency or VHF refers to the radio frequency range between 30 MHz and 300 MHz. In vehicle tracking, VHF technology utilises these radio frequencies for communication and tracking.
VHF trackers are better in many respects as they keep transmitting signals to strategically placed ground stations. One of the most promising features is that VHF trackers provide a precise location.
Yes, there is an annual subscription fee for all trackers. Either we collect the annual subscription fee, or the tracker user has to pay it to the tracker manufacturer.
Please note that the tracker will not operate unless you buy a subscription plan. This fee is charged because the tracker manufacturer or supplier monitors your car 24/7/365.
In most cases, you will be informed by the tracker company if your vehicle gets stolen. In some cases, you will have to call the given phone number to inform the tracker company immediately after you find out about the theft.
